The purpose of this app is to offer straightforward exercises that can be performed while lying in bed or seated in a chair, with the goal of preventing 'PJ Paralysis.' This term describes the physical and psychological decline often observed in patients who remain inactive and in their pajamas for extended periods during hospital stays or care.

Evidence from the Department of Health indicates that patients aged 65 and older can lose approximately 5% of their muscle strength each day they remain immobile in bed. Additionally, prolonged inactivity may contribute to skin breakdown, pressure ulcers, confusion, and fatigue. Such conditions can impair essential daily functions including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, and walking—ultimately leading to unnecessary loss of independence.

Research suggests that simple movements and exercises—like those incorporated into the Get Up and Go app—can substantially mitigate these risks. Maintaining joint and muscle activity, even when bedridden, may help prevent the physical and psychological deterioration associated with prolonged inactivity.
